In the world of Haworthia, the term "Comptonianoid" or more commonly "Retusa-type" refers to the group known in Chinese as "Shou" (寿). These succulents are characterized by their compact rosettes and thick, fleshy leaves that end in a distinct, flatly truncated triangular face called a "window."
In their natural habitat, these plants grow mostly underground with only these translucent windows exposed to the surface to capture sunlight for photosynthesis. Collectors prize them for their diverse textures—ranging from crystal-clear and glassy to rough and "frosted"—and their intricate vein patterns, which can appear as white, silver, or even reddish lines. They are beloved for being slow-growing, long-lived, and perfectly suited for indoor cultivation.
It enjoys regular watering with good ventilation and thrives in bright, indirect light. Use well-draining soil and avoid strong direct sun.
